So it's been awhile since my last post, and I thought that I would check in before revealing my new collab. with Zip Tanks.... In my posts you're always hearing me talk on and on about how we should be taking adventures and getting outside of our comfort zones... and I didn't want to write another post to you until I heeded my own advice, and I definitely think that I accomplished that by lip syncing in front of my entire school! ... and trust me I was terrified, but it turned out to be one of the funnest/funniest things I've done this year... and there have been some other wonderful moments as well, but that has to be the highlight! In the meantime.......... I've been having people come up to me at school telling me that they have seen this or have read this or that post. And I guess, to be honest, the internet is a weird thing. As much as I knew that ... "people" were reading this I never imagined that they really were, and that those people actually went to my school?!
... I guess that's a good thing though, in a way! I may be reserved in person, but I guess you kind of get a hidden pass to me & my mind by reading this. Honestly, I thought that people just looked at the pictures like they do with the rest of life.... it's definitely nice that you actually read this though :) A lot of the time it is easy to assume that people are just taking you for face value, but it is nice to know that some of you care enough about the content to take the extra time to read things like this. I guess this is a really good metaphor for my life. If you don't put yourself out there or take the extra time to get to know me, then there are a lot of things that you can assume about me from my appearances or what you think you observe that will not necessarily be true. I have had people tell me all sorts of crazy things that they thought about me, before they got to know me. Honestly, the people who reaally know me would laugh at the things I get people telling me sometimes! (Had a billion boyfriends, has drank alcohol, is rich, super easy life, literally no problems, popular, stuck up, not the brightest individual, etc.).... ummm hello that could not be further from the truth but lol... some things you just have to sluff off... And, like I said, you can assume a number of things about me if you don't get to know me. That's really the same for anyone though... On a more Meaningful note though, Remember that, pearls come out of oysters. And no matter how society deems you as "skinny" or "pretty" right now, we will all be wrinkly old metaphorical oysters one day. All that will matter is the pearl that lies inside. So take the time to know the pearl inside before you begin valuing or judging the outer appearance of someone else, and remember to value the pearl in yourself too. Because it doesn't matter if you know how to do a winged eyeliner or walk in heels. In the end..... it's the inside that makes you a good person, friend and classmate... not the way you look. We live in an image based society, exacerbated by Instagrams, Tumblrs, and #goals. I stand behind Essena O'Neil (the famous and stunning Instagrammer) who gave up her blogging to shed true light on the unrealistic nature of the blogging and social media realm. It is amazing to find out the people who actually care about you and the people who only care about how you look... even more so the people who care enough to dig deeper to find out who you are. I like to call them "pearl hunters," I've met a few of them and I have held onto them for dear life. One of them is my best friend Allyson and the other is my cousin Janae. Both of them know me inside and out and care about who I am. They are slow to judgement, quick to listen, they value themselves and they value others. Most importantly they are loyal to the core and fast to forgive. Though if you are looking for the ultimate "pearl hunter", it is by far Jesus. He knows who we are more than anyone else. Because He not only made the oyster, but he made each and every single unique and individual pearl that makes us special and who we are. If you really want to be valued and loved like no other, then God has that love just waiting for you. He has been loving you since your creation, and he will never ever stop. And in honor of Turkey Day being tomorrow, I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving and many many blessings to you, your friends, and your families! As always lovelies, xoxo SP
